1200 Dollar Taxi Fare

Three men beat the volcanic ash flight disruption on Sunday by paying a Melbourne cabbie $1200 to drive them to Sydney.
The cabbie, identified only as George, told a Melbourne radio station yesterday that he dropped his fares off in Sydney’s western suburbs late Sunday night after the 800km trip and headed back to Melbourne immediately, arriving at 8.30am yesterday.
He said the men had booked the trip before it was generally known that flights were going to be suspended.
"These guys knew it (the flight ban) was going to happen, so they took off".
He said he didn’t ask them how they knew.
George told radio listeners that the first thing he did when he arrived back in Melbourne was drink a two-litre cappuccino and eat a one-kilogram muffin.
